Sediment yield over glacial cycles: A conceptual model

چکیده

The temporal variability in sediment export yield from glaciers over a timescale of multiple glacial cycles (e.g. 1 × 10 2 ? 6 years) is interest for wide range applications glaciology, sedimentology, geomorphology, climatology and environmental engineering. However, the time required products erosion to be transferred through glaciated catchments extent which glacially-conditioned can transiently stored within them are still poorly constrained matter debate community. We propose conceptual model exported based on literature review. Sediment likely highly variable cycle, notably between phases glacier advance, retreat re-advance due changes ice velocity rates, meltwater transport capacity, accessibility at bed. Typically, early expected lead highest increase ease with bedrock accessed reworked. In contrast, later (re)advance, once sedimentary sources become exhausted, may characterized by intermediate rates maintained erosion. latest deglaciation, either stabilized or disconnected active processes transfer, have lowest rate export. proposed this paper fills gap developing continuous pattern course cycles, wider implications future research. its systematic applicability various settings glaciations needs more field modeling data validate it.

A simple conceptual model of abrupt glacial climate events

Here we use a very simple conceptual model in an attempt to reduce essential parts of the complex nonlinearity of abrupt glacial climate changes (the so-called Dansgaard-Oeschger events) to a few simple principles, namely (i) the existence of two different climate states, (ii) a threshold process and (iii) an overshooting in the stability of the 5 system at the start and the end of the events, ...

Using a special empirical model to estimate sediment yield of Koohbord dam watershed in Kohgilouyeh County

Extended abstract Koohbord dam watershed with a total area of 38.29 square kilometers in Kohgiluyeh and Boyerahmad province is one of the watersheds without sedimentation data, which requires the use of empirical models to estimate the sediment for estimating sediment, so the results obtained through data is the basis of the management plans of dam watershed. In this research, using base maps ...

Sediment yield estimation using GIS

A method has been developed in the present study for the determination of the sediment yield from a catchment using a GIS. The method involves spatial disaggregation of the catchment into cells having uniform soil erosion characteristics. The surface erosion from each of the discretized cells is routed to the catchment outlet using the concept of sediment delivery ratio, which is defined as a f...
